New council protocol to engage its community

Ours is one of the most culturally diverse region in Queensland.

We have a rich mixture of cultures making this city a fantastic place to live—

• more than 58,000 residents born overseas
• more than 180 cultures
• by 2026 our population is expected to be over 400,000, with maybe 84,000 born overseas.

So, it is important that the needs and views of everyone are considered when council is planning new services or programs.

To begin, council is developing ways and means (protocols) to help us gather  ideas, opinions and thoughts from everyone in our city..

For a start, we have to increase awareness in the community about—

• council’s services and operations
• council’s roles, responsibilities and limitations
• how council can meet your needs and listen to your views, and
• how all of the above can be considered as part of our decision-making process.

Council branches are working together to develop these protocols but your involvement is key to our success.
